Close monitoring brings success

-

THE Sixth Form at James Calvert Spence College, in Amble, Northumberland, provides a friendly, familiar atmosphere with pastoral mentoring, which is truly tailored to the needs of each individual.

We are a small Sixth Form which we believe to be a huge advantage, creating a level of individual support which allows students to positively progress toward success.

Students are monitored closely by the Sixth Form team, to ensure that at each stage they are on track to achieve, and wherever needed, receive the appropriate support to help them improve.

We have lots of positives to report in terms of results from our 2016 A level cohort, not only our 100% pass rate, but 64% of our students achieved one or more, A*, A or equivalent and 46% of our students are moving on to university, many of them going to Russel Group universities.

We are the only school in the region to offer fashion and have invested in developing our fashion offer to students.

This is reflected in the success of our fashion course, all students on the course achieved distinction* and most have gone on to gain places in fashion and design degree courses at the university of their choice.

There are a range of opportunities available to our Sixth Form students. We are extremely excited to offer our students the chance of traveling to Cambodia in the Summer of 2017, as well as lots of other course related travel and extra-curricular opportunities, such as a trip to Auschwitz as part of our A Level history course.

Students have access to a wide variety of school facilities on site, including a state of the art dance studio and climbing wall, as well as a fitness room, all free of charge to students.

Students also have the opportunity to publicly display their work at our Create event in the summer term.

This is an open exhibition of student work ranging from food technology demonstrations to art and design technology, culminating in a charity fashion show to showcase our students’ work.

Students also have the opportunity of being involved in marketing activities and the creation of the school newspaper.

In addition to these opportunities and facilities, we are delighted to offer a complimentary bus pass to all Sixth Form student who lives outside of Amble, which entitles them to free public transport for the duration of the courses.
