Dynamic solution
Sir, I write to express my support for the COAST project and point out to anyone with concerns about the loss of two tennis courts, that the alternative is the loss of all four courts.
The proposal by the bowling club and COAST is designed to create a viable solution to a currently unviable situation, whereby the bowling club can no longer sustain the courts and the land has to be sold. It is very likely that the outcome could be a purchase leading to housing development as it did in Whiting Bay, where we lost our tennis courts altogether and so another valuable village amenity.
This joint proposal is a dynamic solution which will be a huge community asset, both to Lamlash and the entire island, attracting significant numbers of visitors and offering an exciting innovative resource. As an integral and guaranteed part of the plan, there will be two upgraded and maintained tennis courts, to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Arran residents have consistently demonstrated their support for COAST over the years and for the ongoing commitment and dedication of those working to achieve it’s aims, for no personal gain.
Their integrity is without doubt and so their undertaking to incorporate the tennis courts will be sustained. Any assets owned by COAST are owned by the community and it is a non profit-making organisation.
I hope this project will be wholeheartedly embraced by the community and recognised as the fantastic opportunity it is, for the island. I speak as a Whiting Bay resident who enjoys playing tennis on the Lamlash courts - let us all support this move which will enable us to continue that enjoyment. Yours,
Sue Archer Whiting Bay
