Silky beat opponents and the heat to secure second round cup spot
Jamie Cole hailed ‘a great team performance’ as Silksworth CW beat Richmond Town and the ‘extreme heat’ to progress in the Alan Hood Charity Cup.
Stan Ogunsuyi, Adam Frame and Josh Winthrop all scored as Cole’s side claimed a 3-1 win in North Yorkshire and secured their place in the second round of the competition.
After the game, the Silky boss said: “We started with plenty of energy and created chances but just couldn’t put the ball in the net.
“Finally, after some good build-up play, Stan put his ahead but they pulled one back with a screamer.
“We had to see off pressure after half-time but we did that and Adam Frame put us back in front before Josh Winthrop sealed what was a great team performance in extreme heat."
A brace from Mason Tarrant a goal apiece from Connor Gales and Josh Moody helped Farringdon Detached progress with a dramatic 4-3 home win against Sunderland RCA.
Windscale needed a penalty shoot-out to find their way past South Moor after the two sides battled to a 2-2 draw over 90 minutes and Matthew Johnson and Liam Graham both scored twice in Shotton Colliery’s 5-4 win at Norton and Stockton Ancients.
Durham City’s abysmal start to the season continued in the only preliminary round tie with a 15-1 defeat at Durham Corinthians.
The hosts were belatedly getting their season underway and made an explosive start with Steven Telford and Kieron Richardson leading the way with hat-tricks.
