Blue Bell come out on top in nine-goal thriller against Grindon

Nine goals were shared in a typical Third Division clash, which saw Washington Blue Bell Inn edge out Grindon Broadway SC 5-4.

Marrs, Swinbank, Gallagher, Smith and Watson scored the goals for the Blue Bell, with Grindon coming close with strikes from Aaron Clasper, who bagged a brace, along with further goals from Ord and Hackett.

Wear United got back to winning ways with a comfortabl­e 3-0 win over the Free Gardeners of Millfield.

Higgins, Taylor and Croucher hit the important goals to claim all three points, as Dan Brown shone for the Millfield side.

Witherwack’s long season continues after they were on the wrong end of a 9-0 thrashing courtesy of Oddies FC.

Wearmouth managed a consolatio­n goal via Mark Dickinson.

The Stella are finding life hard in the First Division after they were beaten 3-1 by the Port of Call.

Gav Teasdale gave the Stella the lead, but the Port of Call needed three of their super subs to win the game.

Harrison, Sanderson and Watson all came off the bench to all score to clinch the win.

Washington New Tavern recorded only their second league win of the season in the Second Division after beating Redhouse 5-3.

The Tavern had goals from Neal, McIntyre (2), Corrigan and Robinson to seal the win.

Redhouse replied through Tench and Callaghan (2).

Hall Farm Doxy Lad proved too good for AFC Houghton after another easy 7-2 win extended their lead at the top of the Fourth Division.

Clish, Glenwright and Pearce all bagged braces, with Connor coming of the bench to find the net.

Whitburn Panthers are learning to win again and they had no issue against Washington North Biddick.

It finished 4-1 to the Panthers, and it could have been more but for Biddick keeper.

The Panthers had Turnbull (2), Armstrong and Conor Wadey on target. Matty Critchon scored for Washington.
