NEW INN KEPT UP PRESSURE ON BISHOP MIDDLEHAM WITH FIVE-GOAL WIN OVER WITTON GILBERT

Hetton New Inn AFC stand second in Swinburne Maddison Solicitors Durham and District Sunday League Division Three following a 5-1 win at Witton Gilbert WMC.

After a fairly even first 20 minutes, the visitors establishe­d a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to two defensive errors and a good finish. They added two further goals in the second half while striker Dave Lumley scored a consolatio­n goal for Witton.

Hetton Social RAR are eighth after being held to a 1-1 draw at Bowburn.

The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Paul Roughley, before RAR equalised in the second half, Jake Bowman the scorer.

In a nine-goal thriller, Bishop Middleham ran out 5-4 winners over Quarringto­n Hill WMC.

Ashley Jenkins (2), Brandon Ward and Jon Steel (2) scored for Middleham, Chris Vaughan, Dan Hall and John Walton for Quarringto­n, who also benefitted from an own goal.

Local rivals Waldridge and Pelton Crown Inn met at Chester-le-Street, where the latter triumphed 3-2.

Greg Short and Sam White gave Waldridge a 2-0 lead, before Connor Shaw and Richard Pearce levelled matters. Steven Haswell missed a penalty for the Crown, but Shaw converted a further spot-kick before a third was saved by Crown keeper Marcus Lowery in the last minute.

In the Premier League, Pelton RAOB WMC won 5-2 at Chilton WMC.

Chilton led through Joe Cornbill and Micheal Searby, Daniel Anderson (3) and Micheal McKay (2) with Pelton’s reply.

Ouston Cherry Tree lost a sixth consecutiv­e league game, 4-1 at Durham County.

They led courtesy of Josh Fryer’s near-post header from a Micky Ross corner. County replied through Chris Brown, and led via Jack Carr before Joe Kerry hit two.

Newton Aycliffe Iron Horse won 4-2 at Ferryhill Celtic, Corey Nicholson with an unstoppabl­e shot into the top corner after bursting through the Ferryhill defence. Nicholson added another and Ben Wood got his 10th and 11th in three games.

Jack Johnson netted a hat-trick against his former club as Burnside WMC ran riot over Houghton Wild Boar All-Stars.

Bailey Hunter, Max Stoker (2) and Kyle McCullough were also among the goals, while Liam Lusk scored for the All-Stars.

In Division One, John Clydesdale was on target as Sacriston won 1-0 at Chester Le Street Whitehills.

Langley Park raced into a 2-0 lead against Chester-leStreet Hilda Park, Ben Todd and Steve Cummings with the goals before Park hit back to win 4-2 thanks to Christophe­r Days, Jamie Gordon (2) and Jonathan Graham.

Ouston Juniors drew 3-3 with New Brancepeth WMC, Ryan Bell, Kieran McPherson and Scott Johnson on target for Juniors and Ricki Box and John Purvis (2) for Brancepeth.

Framwellga­te Moor WMC beat Lumley 4-1 in Division Two.

David Crank, Kieran Bowes and two from Sam Plant gave Framwellga­te victory, Jonny Cossar with the consolatio­n for Lumley.

In a game of missed chances, Lambton Lions won 2-1 against Lumley Snooker Club

Cameron Arthurs handed the Lions a 1-0 half-time lead, Ken Dodd doubled it before Danny Grant pulled one back for the Snooker Club.

Ushaw Moor Cricket Club beat Hetton Social Club 4-1, a Gary Cook brace followed by Hetton’s sole reply before they missed a penalty, Cook completed his hat-trick and John Flowers the scoring.

In the JD Taxis Challenge Cup Second Round, Spennymoor Volitgier won 3-1 at home to Grange Villa.

Spennymoor opened the scoring after eight minutes, but Villa kept plugging away, Danny Hill seeing a decent strike fly narrowly over the bar but his side never otherwise truly troubling the home goalkeeper.

Just after the restart Spennymoor scored again, but the goal of the game came on 55 minutes - a ball over the top from Michael Brown was met perfectly on the volley by Liam Mitchell, 20 yards out, and the ball flew over the keeper’s head into the top corner.

In the third round of the Workwear Express Durham League Cup, Ferryhill Dynamoes romped to a 9-2 win at Chester-le-Street Garden Farm RAR 2.

Ferryhill took control from the off, scoring inside the opening three minutes and they never let up. Vincent Gash scored five goals, Nathan Wall two and Dynamoes extended their superiorit­y through Christophe­r Devine and Zahary Brarrigan.

Jack Walsh and Kieron Allison netted the Garden Farm’s consolatio­n goals.

Also in the League Cup Third Round, Sedgefield St Edmunds won 3-1 at Newton Aycliffe Navy Club in an excellent contest of high quality.

Navy took the lead but found themselves 2-1 down following a pair of errors by their goalkeeper, and St Edmunds sealed victory as their opponents chased the game.

Finally, in the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Trophy Third Round, 10-man Sedgefield Corner House - including 60-year-old manager Kevin Jones - succumbed 6-0 to Dubmire WMC.

Dubmire deserved the win, with goals from James Gardiner (4) and Stephen Donkin (2), but Sedgefield showed great attitude to keep going to the end.
