A teenage woman from Wearside has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man whose body was found at his home in December.

Zoe Warren, 19, was arrested earlier this week at an address in the Washington area and was charged with the murder of Mark Shaw, who was known locally as ‘Sharky’.

Warren appeared before the magistrates’ court in Peterlee yesterday.

She entered no plea to the charge and was remanded in custody. Warren, whose address in court was given as Hexham, in Washington, is now due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday.

Kieran Adey, 18, has already appeared in court charged with Mark’s murder, and three other people remain on police bail while inquiries continue.

Mr Shaw, 29, died from a stab wound, but had also been subjected to a prolonged assault in his own home, in Pine Street, Grange Villa, which is near Chesterle-Street.

Following his death, Mr Shaw’s mum Valerie Watson said: “Not only have I lost a son but Mark’s sisters have lost their much-loved brother, and his 11-year-old son has lost a father.

“We have been left devastated by Mark’s sudden death, but we have been overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness shown to us by so many people.”
