CONSETT TRY TO DENY HOSTS BUT RED STAR PROVE TOO STRONG IN 4-2 VICTORY

-

Seaham Red Star won their third game of the season when they beat high-flying Consett 4-2 in the Ebac Northern League Division One.

Luke Proctor opened the scoring for Red Star on 15 minutes when he neatly finished after a one-two with Craig Lynch past goalkeeper Shaun McDonald.

Lynch increased the lead on 55 minutes when he fired a 20-yard shot high into the net, but on 73 minutes Daniel Craggs headed home at the far post to reduce the arrears.

Two minutes later, Robbie Bird scored from a cross, to give the home side their two-goal advantage back, but Daniel Craggs headed home his second goal of the match with keeper Shaun Newbrook stranded.

Paul Gardiner then made then game safe with two minutes to go, when he smashed the ball into the roof of the net, to seal the three points.

Ryhope CW entertained high-flying Sunderland RCA and the honours were shared in a good entertaining game.

After a goalless first half, Sunderland’s Colin Larkin headed a through ball to Callum Hassan who fired home in the 46th minute, to take the lead for the visitors.

In the second division, Stockton Town remained top of the league after their sixth win of the season, after a 2-0 success over in-form Easington Colliery.

It took until the 70th minute to break the deadlock when Callum Hannah scored with a header from a left wing cross, giving goalkeeper Kyle Donaldson no chance. On 84 minutes, Chris Freeman was sent off after his second bookable offence when he gave away a penalty, which Tom Coulthard converted.

Ryton & Crawcrook Albion held high-flying Whickham to a 1-1 draw at Kingsley Park.

In the second half, a corner fell to David Clasper who rifled home from inside the box, giving Frazer Nairn no chance.

Whickham missed out on a win when they failed to convert two penalties in the second half.

Tow Law Town lost out 1-0 at home to Willington, whose goal came from Michael Brown.
