Sunderland Maritime Heritage Centre, 2 Church Street East, is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free. Go along to hear about the plans for the centre while having free cup of tea or coffee. Who knows you may end up being one of its volunteer workers. Volunteers would like to thank everyone for all the donations of artefacts which will enable them to authenticate the shipyard experiences for school visits. An International Tilting Competition was held on the Duke of Buccleugh’s Estate, at Bowhill near Selkirk.An international Danish team visited Scotland to compete against the Scottish Team, who train at Bowhill, and Clare Barnes, formerly from Boldon, represented England. In Denmark this very popular sport, which is played at national level, is enthusiastically followed and supported. Clare trains on her horse Phoenix at her home in Brancepeth with her own equipment. Clare became the first ever Gallow Master of England to compete in this sport at International level at this competition. She is keen to increase membership of the English team and anyone interested in being part of the team, or seeking further information about this rapidly growing fun but competitive sport, to see Scottish Borders Tilting Association or contact Clare on clarebarnes@rocketmail.com
