Lonliness tackled by funeral home

A Sunderland funeral directors is aiming to help families to tackle loneliness following the death of a loved one.

Co-op Funeralcar­e in Fulwell hosted its first coffee morning open to the community and those supported by Co-op Funeralcar­e.

The event was held in aid of the British Red Cross and its campaign to tackle loneliness throughout the UK.

Karen Crake, manager of the Fulwell branch said: “We were keen to promote our new funeral homes within the community as places that people would be able to find support and feel more connected to their local community.

“We’ve had coffee mornings at other funeral homes before, and they’ve always been just as successful.

“We’re very passionate about our campaign to tackle loneliness and hope there will be many more events like this one in future.”

During the event, visitors were able to find out more about the services offered by the company as well as establishi­ng the branch as a place where people can find a friendly ear.

EmmaSpragg,Operations Director, London, British Red Cross said: “Loneliness is an increasing­ly complex issue that impacts upon people’s wellbeing and health, affecting millions of people in our society.

“We are very grateful to the Co-op Funeralcar­e for their efforts in providing this event to bring communitie­s together and help people feel less isolated.”

The coffee morning is one of a number of events being held by Co-op Funeral Care services throughout the country.

Monies raised at the events will support people experienci­ng loneliness in communitie­s throughout the UK.
