Police name man who died after incident
A MAN who died after being found injured outside a home in Blyth has been identified as police charged a man with his murder.
At 1.15pm on
Wednesday, April 29, Northumbria Police received a report that a 34-year-old man had been assaulted at an address on Crofton Street.
Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries on Thursday.
The man has now been identified as Colin Rutherford, 34, of Blyth, pictured below.
His family continue to receive support from specialist family liaison officers.
Police have now charged a man – Wayne Davison, aged 37, of Seaton Delaval – with murder and assault by beating of an emergency worker.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates tomorrow.
Detective Chief Inspector Ed Small, the senior investigating officer on the case, said: “This is a tragic incident that has sadly resulted in Colin’s death. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this terrible time.”
An investigation was launched into the incident and officers arrested seven people in connection with the assault. Three men – aged 46, 47 and 52 – have been released on police bail. Three men – aged 29, 46 and 46 – have been released with no further action.
