Speeder was in need of a number two
BANK TO THE FUTURE: Tom is now smart and busy having pulled himself out of the gutter – and bottle bank
profanity in public. For that he was also fined. Tom said: “This is the kind of petty stuff that you expect from a young footballer. “But the truth is, Wayne isn’t a young footballer any more. He’s a dad- of- four and whether he likes it or not he’s a role model for millions of young people.
“That said, I learned the hard way that the party lifestyle is difficult to leave behind. Indeed, I didn’t realise I was in trouble until Sunday Sport found me living in that bottle bin.
“After I appeared in the paper, the truth hit me like an express train. It was time to grow up and sort myself out.
“I stopped supping the dregs and for a while got myself in a hostel. Then I got bits of work here and there – I’m still a damned good welder – and pulled myself out of the gutter.
“Wayne’s not in the gutter. But maybe he can give me a call and get some words of advice or inspiration.”
Tom now divides his time between freelance welding and life coaching earning up to £ 1,000- a- day motivating groups of up to 100 people for businesses and local authorities. And there’s more. He said: “Panto season’s coming up and I’m booked solid until February. I can’t believe that earlier this year I was living in a bottle bank. It’s a huge turnaround and I feel like celebrating.
“But I won’t, of course.” A DRIVER caught speeding at 110mph on the A1 told police it was because he “needed the toilet, a number two”.
