REAL THREAT Barca held and could be toppled

BARCELONA were held at Real Sociedad in a result that could see them knocked off the La liga summit ahead of El Clasico.

With Real Marid facing Valencia today, the leaders were left frustrated after their stumble yesterday.

Spain international Mikel Oyarzabal gave the home side the lead in the 12th minute from the penalty spot after Sergio Busquets was penalised for tugging the shirt of Diego Llorente while they battled for an aerial ball.

Antoine Griezmann levelled for Barca in the 38th minute against his old club. Griezmann scooped the ball over Alex Remiro after being played in by Luis Suarez (below) in a sweeping counter-attack.

Suarez put the Catalans ahead in the 49th minute, passing a lay-off from

Lionel Messi into an empty net.

Sociedad levelled shortly after the hour mark, as

Swedish youngster Alexander Isak pounced on a loose ball and fired home from close range after keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen had parried Nacho Monreal’s cross-shot.

Busquets said: “We’re in good form, I don’t know if we’ll [be top of the league] because it doesn’t depend on us.

“We’re on an upwards curve and playing at home. We’ve always risen to the challenge in recent Clasicos.” Barca were fuming Gerard Pique failed to win a late penalty for a shirt pull but appeals were ignored by ref Alberola Rojas.

“I’m not a referee, I don’t know if it was a penalty,” Barca boss Ernesto Valverde said. “The players are told about holding in the penalty area, so it has to be very clear.”
