George roars in to score winner for Dyche’s men

-

stunning volley into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.

Surely a contender for goal of the month.

Certainly, a delighted Dyche thought so.

“It was a fantastic goal, certainly worthy of the Premier League. It is just a shame that we aren’t Arsenal, so it won’t be shown 1,000 times, just four,” he met by Ben Mee and when his firm header squirmed out of Artur Boruc’s grasp, Ward pounced to hammer in from virtually on the line.

But these days it appears Bournemouth only react in adversity and, in first- half added time, Charlie Daniels crossed from the right for Benik Afobe to comfortably sidefoot past Tom Heaton, who, a few minutes earlier, had performed heroics to turn an Adam Smith free-kick over the bar.

Burnley were incensed, claiming the extra minute had expired, with Dyche furiously pointing at his watch as he went past referee Martin Atkinson on his way to the dressing room.

He explained: “I don’t know where time comes from at half-time. One minute added and my watch said one minute 17 seconds.”

It made it an anxious second half until George Boyd grabbed Burnley’s third goal in the 75th minute.

Substitute Andre Gray, who, together with his fellow bench man Ashley Barnes, gave the Clarets a timely lift wrongfooted the Bournemouth defence with a clever pass to Boyd, who did the rest.

A wonderful, left- footed effort speared past Boruc into the far corner.

Scott Arfield dragged a shot past the post when he should have scored, while a weak Gray header landed in Boruc’s lap, offering Bournemouth a lifeline.

They scored again in added time, a Charlie Daniels fierce finish making it an anxious finale for the home side, with Burnley fans whistling in anticipation of making it 16 points at Turf Moor this season.

Only one point has been gleaned on their travels, endorsing just how important this victory was – not that Howe was joining in the celebrations on his first return.

He said: “We don’t want to become a team that plays well when chasing the game.

“We want to dominate from start to finish. We are not the finished article and I think today proves that.”
