Drinking sesh put Irish star in A&E
It’s not unusual to get sloshed with Sir Tom Jones… says the singer’s pal Danny O’Donoghue.
In fact, the Script frontman reckons the 81-year-old Welshman is such a caner he would give IoW headliner Liam Gallagher a run for his money.
The Voice judges Danny and Sir Tom are both performing this weekend at the Isle of Wight Festival – where Liam, who turns 49 on Tuesday, graced Friday night.
But while he reckons Sir Tom could drink Oasis rocker Liam under the table, 40-year-old Danny admits he is scared of boozing with the Sex Bomb legend – because last time they went on an epic bender, he ended up in A&E.
Danny tells me: “Isle of Wight is going to be total madness. Some of us have planned on staying there partying because a celebration is needed.
“I think we’ll just go mental. You think Liam Gallagher is a hellraiser?
“Spend the night drinking with Tom Jones. He’s a drinking pro.
“I’m Irish but he’s Welsh – figure that out! One time we went drinking and every time the champagne went halfway down, he’d order another bottle. “He wouldn’t let me leave the table until the bottle was finished.
“We drank champagne until 7am, then I had to get up early and drank a lot of coffee – I was hospitalised next day because I ended up getting heart palpitations.
“I’m not blaming Tom, I blame my ability to not say no.
“The rest of my band want to party this weekend – I may have to take it easy.”
Fair enough.
The Script are releasing their greatest hits album Tales From The Script on October 1 and have a UK and European tour confirmed for next year.
Danny also revealed he is training to be a Muay Thai fighter – another reason he is off the booze this weekend.
