Broch’s title bid Canned

F r a s e r b u r g h ’s title challenge is over after a sickening 4- 3 defeat to Forres Mechanics.
The Broch needed three points to keep alive their fading hopes but went a goal down after six minutes then saw captain Bryan Hay red- carded onl y f ive minutes later.
Despite leading 3-1 just after half-time, a secondhalf collapse killed them off.
Scott Miller opened the scoring for the Can Cans and finished with a hat- trick, including the winner with four minutes left.
Stuart Soane also netted for Forres while Broch’s Paul Campbell hit a double and Scott Barbour also struck.
Broch boss Mark Cowie admitted: “To lose in the manner we did is just bitterly disappointing.
“The goals we lost were poor but I cannot fault the players for their effort given the number of players we had out and losing our main defender early.”
It now looks like being a two-horse race in the title run-in, with neither Cove Rangers nor Brora Rangers blinking yesterday.
Cove thrashed Strathspey Thistle 7-1 with Mitch Megginson netting a hattrick and Jordon Brown claiming a double. Harry Milne and Jordan Macrae also scored.
Craig Campbell struck in the fourth minute of stoppage time to give Brora a 1- 0 win at home to Inverurie Locos.
A penalty from Steven Ross and a late second goal from Andrew MacAskill gave Buckie Thistle a 2- 0 home victory over derby rivals Deveronvale while Turriff claimed a 3-1 victory at Lossiemouth.
