I’M DUGOUT TO BE CALM

-

That was the last time the Light Blues appeared in a semi-final at Hampden – but it’s a much-changed side that will run out for the Scottish Cup last four today.

And the man in the Rangers dug-out hopes to behave in a different way from his Portuguese predecessor in that bad-tempered Betfred Cup 2-0 defeat to Motherwell.

Caixinha’s short reign was nearing its disastrous end with signs of the pressure taking its toll when he was sent to the stand for arguing with ref Steven McLean.

The image of Caixinha standing at the back of the stand in front of the glumlooking Ibrox board summed up a man near his end.

Graeme Murty knows staying calm will be harder than ever with so much riding on today’s Scottish Cup crunch against Celtic.

Murty said: “I was at the semi-final when Pedro was sent to the stand. It’s okay saying you need to control yourself – but it’s easier said than done.

“You have to act in a certain way to work for this club, act in a manner that is becoming of the station. But it’s hard – let’s make no bones about it.

“Ultimately, you come back to what’s best for the team and that’s hopefully for me to remain in control so I can help them when they need me.”

Murty has even more reason to be on his best behaviour at Hampden this afternoon with his proud Hampden, Today, 2.30pm, Live on Sky Sports
