Idris in cinema proposal surprise
Hollywood star Idris Elba stole the limelight from a screening of his new film yesterday – by proposing to his model girlfriend.
The 45-year- old star of Luther and The Wire got in the Valentine’s Day mood early, going down on one knee to Sabrina Dhowre on stage before a preview of the movie Yardie.
The audience at the Rio Cinema in Dalston, east London, cheered wildly as Sabrina, 29, said yes.
Twice- divorced Elba is believed to have been seeing the former beauty queen since last March.
The cinema confirmed the news on Twitter with a picture of the actor grinning broadly.
They said: “Another Rio cinema first!
“Idris Elba went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend live on stage this morning before a prev iew of his f i lm Yardie.
“She said yes and there was much clapping and cheering.”
The screening yesterday morning was a special one for cast and crew of the film, Elba’s directorial debut.
One witness wrote on Twitter: “At cast & crew screening of @YARDIES @IdrisElba just proposed to his girlfriend Sabrina!! Big Congrats to you both!!”
The couple met last year in Canada, where he was f i lming The Mountain Between Us.
Elba said: “Fal l ing in love while making a movie about falling in love is pretty special.”
