Penny Cars, who are par t of Lanarkshir­e Private Hire, have 10 school cont racts w ith North Lanarkshir­e Council.

A spokesman for the council said: “We can conf irm that Lanarkshir­e Private Hire, trading as Penny Cars, have contracts in place with our education, youth and communitie­s service to provide taxis for some additional support needs pupils.

“We consult with Police Scotland before any taxi contract is awarded.”

Paisley Cab Co have school contracts in the town with Renfrewshi­re Council.

And Edinburgh Private Hire have several contracts with Edinburgh City Council, though the council were unable to give us further details.

Last July, we revealed how Malcolm had bought KeyCars in Rutherglen, near Glasgow.

The private hire firm previously had close links with Daniel and are thought to have changed hands for a six-figure sum.

At the time, Malcolm told the Sunday Mail: “To make some spurious connection between me and a criminal would have a serious effect on me and my business.

“We have contracts for schools, the elderly as well as normal day-to- day customers.

“I have no doubt any suggestion of involvemen­t with Steven Daniel would harm my business and my own reputation.”

Daniel had been in partnershi­p at KeyCars with close friend and associate Scott Thompson.

Glasgow Private Hire signage is now displayed at the former KeyCars premises.

In August, arsonists torched five 2017 plate Mercedes V-Class vehicles, which cost up to £50,000 each, at Penny Cars.

Afterwards, Malcolm said he had been warned by police two months previously that his business was in danger of being targeted.

The tycoon is said to have upset rival firms by offering their drivers one-off payments of up to £1000 to work for him.

In October, we revealed the deal with Margaret McGraw, which saw Malcolm receive 400 shares in Glasgow Private Hire, one of the biggest and most successful taxi firms in Scotland.

The acquisitio­n gave him overall control of the company he helped set up in 1999.

Highly profitable Glasgow Private Hire are worth almost £ 4million.

Credit reference agency Experian estimate the f irm made about £ 7.6million last year and a profit of £276,374.

Malcolm is one of Scotland’s richest businessme­n with an estimated fortune of about £50million.

In 1990, police seized more than 100 stolen cars that were rented out to taxi firms owned by Malcolm.

Daniel, who lives in Bishopbrig­gs, near Glasgow, and other fami ly members have been at war with the Lyons crime syndicate, headed by Spain- based Steven Lyons, for more than 10 years.

He is one of 60 key crime figures issued with “threat to life” warnings by police over their involvemen­t in the feud.

Last May, he was seriously assaulted in Glasgow’s Port Dundas.

Six men have appeared in court in connection with the attack.

Malcolm did not respond to our requests for a comment.
