I don’t give a Tross about second best

- REPORTS FROM CALIFORNIA

LEANDRO TROSSARD has had enough of second best and senses he knows how Arsenal can beat Manchester City for the title this season. A Community Shield win last summer is all he has to show from five years in England which started after he came to Brighton as a league winner in Belgium.

The winger, who Gunners boss Mikel Arteta also uses as a striker, reckons they can close the two points between them and City – led by Pep Guardiola (right) – by reversing last season’s dismal December in which they lost to West Ham, Fulham and drew with Liverpool in the space of a week.

Trossard, 29, said: “We had a patch where we had a couple of games we didn’t win.

“We need to just be consistent for the whole season. Every game is a tough one because every team is developing and every squad is developing in the league. It’s getting harder and harder.

“But the end goal is winning trophies. It’s up to us, we need to improve on the things that we didn’t do last season and get those points we dropped last season.”

Trossard was the catalyst to achieving a runners-up finish two seasons ago after his January arrival from the Amex.

Arsenal initially went for Mykhailo Mudryk and had to switch horses when the Ukraine star was landed by Chelsea.

Trossard, of course, had to prove he was better than £100million Mudryk despite costing barely a quarter of that fee. It is a challenge he is ready to meet every season.

He said: “I think you always need to prove yourself wherever you go. I didn’t think about what was going on before me.

“They made very clear to me that they wanted me after the thing with Mudryk and yeah, I was happy to join.

“I had a good chat with

Mikel, he gave me the plan about how it would go and it started to click straight away.

“The competition in the team is at a high level. Everyone needs to be at their best to play.

“We’ve seen that over the past years.the manager makes decisions based on how hard you work in training and what you do in games.

“It’s good that we push each other in every position. That’s how you can win things.”
