Tossed Salads And Scrambled Eggs and has a suitably curious history. The songwriter Bruce Miller was asked to compose something for the show and after writing the music he asked Darryl Phinnessee if he could produce suitable lyrics.
Phinnessee came up with Tossed Salads And Scrambled Eggs as depictions of the mixed-up nature of Frasier Crane’s patients. are absolutely right but in Renshaw’s day the winner did not have to enter the main draw. Instead he just had to let the others play until only one remained to challenge him for the title.
The reigning champion entered the main draw in championships from 1922 onwards. Competitions before that year are often forgotten when records are being considered.
Curiously three of William Renshaw’s titles came after beating his twin brother Ernest in the final. Together they also won the doubles five times.
