Bramhall fall short in Brooklands run chase

- JACK CLARK

AFTER weeks of what has seemed like continuous rain, punters and players alike were surprised to see a relatively playable ground at Brooklands, who wanted to continue their very strong start to the season. Bramhall, after a couple of washouts, wanted to get back to winning ways.

Brooklands won the toss and bat and batted. Latter and Lachlan, opening, started brightly for the visiting side, matched equally by Edwards (60).

However with Edwards out, Bramhall started to get back into it. Macchiocchi was rewarded for his outstanding accuracy and mixture of pace with a sensational (8-49).

With some useful lower order hitting from Jones (18), Brooklands finished on 134.

The opening pair of Clark and Dixon strode to the crease with plenty of optimism. This didn’t last long after Clark (0) left one around middle stump and Jackson (0) was soon given out to a delivery which struck him around the groin area.

Dixon and Cantello looked very tidy for while but Bramhall’s woes continued after a magic delivery from AJ Hart dismissing Cantello.

Dixon (19) fell another suspect groin area/sliding down leg LBW found Dixon striding back to the hut.

The day did not really get much better for Bramhall, despite some very gutsy batting from Kannah (29), who should take a lot from a solid knock in difficult conditions. Latter, Anson and Macciocchi all fell cheaply, to Bramhall’s dismay. Webb (24), showed his impressive strokeplay with the willow once more.

Some outstanding bowling from Hart (13-5) and Starkes (24-4) gave. the home team a deserved win.
