ON a rain affected weekend at Donington Park, in Leicestershire, Stockport’s Christian Iddon kept his Championship hopes alive, with a brace of top five finishes in the latest rounds of the Bennetts British Superbike
Championship.
Torrential conditions scuppered any chance of the Series even having a qualifying session, the grid for race one set from free practice times, and Iddon would line up in fourth position.
The weather delayed the race one start twenty-four hours, meaning that for the first time in the Championship’s history, there would be three races in one day.
Race one, on a drying track, saw the Visiontrack PBM Ducati rider claim second place on the opening lap, and remained there until the chequered flag fell, his fourth in succession following a trio at Oulton Park in the previous round.
Some tyre gambles left the front end of the race two grid with some unusual names on it, and Iddon back in seventh. Losing a place on the opening lap, Iddon clawed his way back to finish sixth, lining up a fifth place slot on the grid for the final encounter of the weekend.
A rollercoaster opening few laps for Iddon saw him climb to fourth by lap seven, and there he would stay. Most importantly the BSB race winner laid claim to second spot in the Championship standings, giving him a more than fighting chance going in to the final three races of 2020.
Speaking to Visiontrack PBM Ducati, Iddon said; “The main focus was to leave Donington Park still with a good chance of the Championship, and I’ve managed that and got the boxes ticked.
“I’m just 16 points off the Championship lead with all to play for at Brands Hatch, although
