Daggitt gets edged out in Trophy bid

- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

DIDSBURY Golf Club were excellent hosts for the second playing of the competition for the Bert Thompson Trophy.

Bert, a former Captain of Didsbury Golf Club and for many years secretary and life member of the Alliance, had the competition in his memory first played for in 2015 with the trophy donated by the Alliance.

The competition attracted a top quality field of professionals and amateurs and many of them paid deserving compliments to the quality and presentation of the Didsbury course and the off-course hospitality and service.

The top individual pro prize was shared by Graham Cox (Lymm) and Grant Hamerton (Pike Fold) who both posted 39 points with their closest rival being Craig Daggitt (Bramall Park ) 38.

Craig had a fine partner in Kenny Thomson who helped him to a 44-point total in the pro am section and also to win the Bert Thompson Trophy to add to the White Cup which Park had won earlier in the year at Chorlton GC.

It needed a cpo on 44 points to take the Park duo ahead of Graham Cox and his partner Richard Shaw with third spot going to Andrew Terry (Whitefield) and Josh Ford (Turton) with 43 points.

Alliance treasurer Vinny Doyle (Leigh) and his partner Keith Liddle (Blackley) led in the am am section with 44 points with the other am am prizes going to Marcus Corfield (William Wroe) and Terry Gilbert (Davyhulme Park) 43 and John Kilner and Neil Anderson (Ellesmere) 40.

The Alliance was welcomed to Didsbury by their Captain Mike Serrage, who together with Didsbury President Barry Wynter had enjoyed a great day with Alliance Captain Dave Smith and his Swinton Park colleague Jimmy O’Reilly.
