Amalie takes to stage with stars
Teen will join former Eastenders actor
A young performer from Stirling is set to take to the stage in a production with former Eastenders star John Partridge.
After two years, charity Glasgow Philharmonia SCIO are back with ‘Movies to Musicals’ - at the Alhambra Theatre, Dunfermline - with 15-year-old Amalie Holst among their ‘kids cast’.
The excited teenager said: “I joined Movies to Musicals last year and have loved every minute of my time so far. I have made so many new friends and feel like I have been there forever, not just a few months.
“I absolutely love exploring musical theatre. Singing is far from my comfort zone, and all the teachers have been so encouraging and welcoming. I’ve improved so much in such a short space of time.
“I can’t wait to perform on the stage at The Alhambra Theatre, this weekend, with West End stars. It will be the experience of a lifetime.”
After six sell out shows at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and two years that saw the Arts come to a stop, Movies to Musicals will be at the Alhambra tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, with favourite musicals and movie soundtracks performed by a live orchestra, kids cast, musical theatre cast and artsists from London’s West End.
BBC Celebrity Masterchef winner and Eastenders star John Partridge has stepped in to replace X Factor star Niki Evans - who has returned to a role in Blood Brothers. The audience will also watch performances from Les Miserables and Light in the Piazza’s Rob Houchen and Jade Davies, known for her roles in Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
After 10 years of Glasgow Philharmonia, the producer of Movies to Musicals, Ross Gunning, 27, is excited to get back together with the musicians and singers.
Glasgow Philharmonia SCIO, a registered charity, looks for the stars of tomorrow every year to give them incredible opportunities to perform free of charge or for very little cost.
The successful members of the kids cast and musical theatre cast attended a residential course at Ardentinny Outdoor Centre in Dunoon in February, where they had intense rehearsals ahead of the big shows.
People can expect songs from Legally Blonde, Grease, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, School of Rock, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables and many more.
