A cyclist has died following a horror crash at a busy Stirling roundabout.

The road was closed for more than three hours after the incident which occurred around 2pm on Wednesday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 2.10pm on Wednesday, September 8, to a report of a crash at the Craigforth roundabout east, Stirling, involving a car and a cyclist.

“The cyclist, a man, died at the scene.

“The road was closed to allow collision investigation work to take place. It reopened around 5.45pm.

“Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and if anyone has any information that could help with our enquires please call us on 101, quoting incident number 1974 of Wednesday, September 8.”

A bystander told the Observer on Wednesday, shortly after the incident:

“Police and fire brigade are at the scene just now. It looks very serious to me.”

The fatal crash comes just days after two bikers were hurt in a collision on the A81 Callander to Blairhoyle Road.

Police investigating the crash - which saw a 48-yearold woman and a 56-year-old man rushed to hospital - are appealing for information.

They say that at around 4.10pm on Saturday two motorcycles were travelling southbound on the A81 when the man, riding a blue Yamaha R6, appeared to lose control and came off the bike, landing on the northbound carriageway.

The woman, riding a yellow Suzuki RGSX then collided with the rear of a black Ford Kuga, coming off the bike and landing on the southbound carriageway.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe her condition as critical.

The male biker was taken to Forth Valley Royal

Hospital for treatment. Medical staff describe his condition as stable.

It’s understood that the woman suffered serious head injuries, whilst the man sustained broken bones.

Sergeant John Lang from Forth Valley Road Policing Unit said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and I would appeal for anyone with information to please get in touch.

“In particular I would like to speak to anyone who may have observed the two motorcycles involved driving along the A81 from Callander. I would also urge any motorists with dashcams who were on the road to check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101 and quoting the incident number 2284 of Saturday, September 4.
