Street design project update for residents

- NEWS REPORTER

Residents, businesses and stakeholders in Raploch are being asked for their views on an innovative street redesign project which would transform their community.

They have been invited to a design feedback session being held on Friday, March 15 at Raploch Campus from 1-7pm where proposals to improve Raploch Road and the link to Forth Valley College along Drip Road will be presented.

The project is being delivered as part of the Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling programme of improving access and conditions for walking, cycling and wheelchair use in Stirling.

Run in partnership between Stirling Council and Sustrans Scotland, the Raploch Street Design Project is funded by the Scottish Government through Sustrans’ Street Design programme.

Since the project was launched in September last year, the team has received hundreds of comments and suggestions through events and activities held locally and online.

Using this feedback, the team have developed these ideas into designs, and are asking the public to continue to engage with and inform the plans.

The proposed designs will also continue to be exhibited and open for feedback at the campus until April 5 as well as on the project’s website www.raploch.commonplace.is, where comments can be added from March 15.

Councillor Jim Thomson, convener of Stirling Council’s Environment and Housing Committee said: “The whole idea behind this project is to make it easier for people to have healthy transport options that not only change lives, but protect the environment.

“However, to bring about that change, it takes real effort, discussion and planning so it’s absolutely vital the public continue to inform the ongoing process.”

Mette Moeller, Senior Urban Designer, Sustrans Scotland Street Design added: “Using this feedback, we’ve turned their ideas into designs, and we’d encourage residents to get involved and let us know what they think.

“We now want to develop solutions to these barriers and would encourage everyone to get involved at their local events.”
