On the run to Raise the Roof
Staff at Specsavers in Stirling laced up their walking boots and took on a 10k challenge in aid of Strathcarron Hospice.
The opticians managed to gather a bumper sum of £2788 for the charity’s Raise the Roof appeal.
The Observer reported last month that those at the hospice are looking to raise £50,000 to repair a roof at their building near Denny.
The tiled roof on the‘original house’, which is home to facilities such as the cafe, the day care centre, offices, therapies and the education and research departments, is known to leak in bad weather.
Those at the hospice are hoping the works can begin shortly and that the roof can be sorted ahead of the winter.
And the efforts of charitable staff at Specsavers have gone towards helping that aim.
Their sponsored walk saw employees join with families and friends for a 10k trek around Stirling.
Susanne Akil, store director, said: “Every year we work closely with Strathcarron Hospice to raise funds to go towards their important work.
“The sponsored walk was a fun way for our team and their families to spend time together while raising money for this very worthy cause.
“Thank you to everyone who joined us on the walk and who have donated to help us exceed our target. We are thrilled that we managed to raise over £2700.”
Claire Macdonald, business development fundraiser at Strathcarron, is grateful for the support shown by staff at the opticians.
She said:“Thank you to Specsavers Stirling for helping to‘raise the roof’ here at Strathcarron Hospice.
“We need to raise £50,000 to fund vital roof repairs and the money raised by the team will go a long way in helping us to achieve this.
“The team are always such fantastic supporters of the Hospice and we really are grateful for their help with this campaign.”
