A SMASHING SUMMERFEST
Events shows off best of Callander
Callander last week celebrated the end of its annual summer festival.
Callander and Trossachs Summerfest came to a close after two weeks of offerings for residents and visitors to the town.
The popular attraction ran from July 14 until July 29, with entertainment and activities scheduled every day – the highlight being a performance by Scots musician Dougie MacLean at Callander Kirk.
Over the course of the two weeks the town was full of visitors enjoying the festival atmosphere.
Activities included art exhibitions, one of which was in Ancaster Square and took on a Suffragette theme. It saw the popular location decorated in yarn and wollen creations in purple, white and green, the colours associated with the votes for women movement.
Pottery classes were also on offer for anyone feeling creative and the town also saw several musical events including performances from Callander Brass and Silver Thistle Pipes and Drums from Belgium.
Callander Ramblers also took twelve visitors to the festival, from England, Spain and the Netherlands on a walk to Loch Venachar.
Throughout the festival there were several appearances from Liz Campbell’s Highland Dancers, who performed to crowds in Ancaster Square.
Reflecting on another successful Summerfest, Callander town co– ordinator Sheila Winstone said: “It’s been a brilliant two weeks with good audiences for all of our events and a buzz throughout the town especially in Ancaster Square. More than 50 community groups and businesses were involved in the celebration by performing, organising and sponsoring events, running workshops, greeting visitors, providing venues and producing art installations and exhibitions.
“It really showed off the best that Callander has to offer, provided authentic experiences for visitors and encouraged new interests and activities for residents.”
Business owner and vice chair of Callander Enterprise, Julie Carmichael said: “I feel the Callander Summerfest events kept visitors in the area longer. Many of my customers commented on the variety of activities taking place, the market stalls and colourful themed bollard covers.”
