Bridgesize increased

-

A temporary footbridge which will be put in place at Stirling Railway Station for the next six months is four-feet higher than the existing crossing.

The Observer reported on Wednesday that Network Rail is set to remove the lattice bridge linking platforms six and nine while improvements are made to disabled access.

And while the existing bridge is converted to a “fully-accessible structure” a temporary crossing will be lifted into place by crane.

This will be taller in height in order to allow engineers space to work on the overhead power lines beneath – which are being introduced as part of the electrification of the railway.

The disabled access improvements also includes the installation of a lift on platform nine and the reconstruction of a staircase.

In addition there will be alterations to the roof canopy and to the internal landing areas between the footbridge and existing lift on platform three.

Stirling Council last week formally gave the project the go-ahead and works are already underway as engineers are able to make progress on the structure without shutting it off to the public.

However, they will be required to close the railway line briefly later this month for its removal as the next phase of the works get underway.
