Mac double lifts Riverside

-

Riverside U19s ...... 4 Gartcairn U19s ...... 2

Riverside entertained Central League side Gartcairn on Saturday at the Haws Park in a friendly.

With new players on view, it was a slightly different looking team to the one that finished last season.

But Riverside were up for it from the start, clearly smarting from a midweek defeat to Camelon Juniors under 20s.

In the 18th minute, the home side took the lead following a clinical finish from newcomer Jake McLean following a great cross from Llewis Houston but Gartcairn equalised when a long through ball caught the defence napping.

Riverside quickly regained the advantage when McLean grabbed his second with an audacious lob over the oncoming Gartcairn keeper. And before the break, David McKinnon set up Luke Fosyth to score before grabbing the limelight himself when he fired home a free-kick from 25 yards.

The second half took time to get going settle with subs being rotated by both sides and it was Gartcairn who settle quickest, scoring their second in 56 minutes.

And although keeper Callum Breingan was called into action on a couple of occasions, the best team won on the day as Riverside deserved their victory.

There were impressive displays by Breingan, McKinnon, McLean, Robert McPake and Connor Jack in defence but The Inn at Kippen man of the match went to Ross McEwan.
