Boys off on tour of Germany

Trip for young musicians

- Staff reporter

Thirty young musicians from Dunblane Boys’ Brigade are off to Germany for a weeklong tour.

They head off by coach tomorrow (Thursday) and will perform three concerts: Rudesheim on Saturday; Bad Ems on Sunday, and in Bad Münster am SteinEbernburg on Tuesday.

In between, they will enjoy a day off at the Phantasialand theme park on Monday, and will visit a number of other historic attractions during their trip including Cologne Cathedral. The band will perform a variety of music, including both Scots and German favourites, movie medleys, marches, original concert band works, and some combined numbers for bagpipes and wind band together.

It will include a march specially written for the trip by Robert Cowan, Bandmaster of the Regimental Band of the Black Watch Army Cadet Force, entitled ‘Grüße aus Dunblane’ (Greetings from Dunblane).

Band conductor, Fraser Boyd, said: “In the run-up to the tour they have had some German lessons as well and we really hope that the boys will gain from experiencing German culture and history as well as sharing in that international language of music.”

The band would like to thank North Sea Plastics for financial support for the trip, as well as everyone who has attended the band’s recent performances and fundraising events.

New members who would like to learn instruments as beginners (or existing players) are being sought to join.
