School uniform help available

-

Stirlingshire School Uniform Bank is again hoping to help struggling families as they prepare their children to return to school.

Tesco in Stirling is again allowing the organisers of the effort to make an appeal to its customers in store for brand new uniform items this Saturday and Sunday, August 4 to 5.

Uniform Bank spokesperson Sandra Laird said:“Our 2016 and 2017 appeals were very successful and we were able to provide brand new uniforms to many families who would otherwise have gone without.

“It is our aim to keep the children from disadvantaged families, as well dressed and well equipped as their peers and we never know the names of the children or families we provide for.

“In the past our referrals have come mainly from Women’s Aid, nurseries and school staff, but we also accept requests from other professional bodies.”

The Uniform Bank says their efforts help those who may fall through any gaps in criteria for school uniform grants.

“The Scottish Government has raised the school grant to a minimum of £100 per eligible child, but in Stirling this is now £130.

“Unfortunately this does not apply to everyone and there will be working families who will still struggle to clothe their children.

“We will be in Tesco on Saturday and Sunday from 11am and are hoping customers are as generous as before in donating brand new uniform items everything from pencils to pinafores will be gratefully received.”
