Robin’s rallying call before crunch

-

Bridge of Allan Sports Club first team skipper Robin Bairner has described the visit of Dalgety Bay tomorrow (Thursday) in East Squash League One as a“must win”encounter.

The Richardson and Starlingsponsored side went down 3-2 at Colinton Castle on Friday night when Bairner was forced to field a seriously under-strength side.

That setback means BofA are now just seven points above the drop zone and Robin said:“It was unfortunate that this re-arranged game was on the Friday of our half-term holiday week and the night before the Central Masters.

“It seriously hit our availability and I have to thank Ben Orr and Keir Mackenzie for helping us get a team out and then winning their matches which gave us six very valuable points.

“We are looking a lot stronger for Thursday with Blair Christie and club champion Andy MacBean both available.

“Dalgety Bay are just seven points below us and occupying the third relegation place, so this is an absolute must-win match for us.”

Meanwhile, the seconds are at Edinburgh Sports Club with skipper Martin Jack determined to continue his side’s relentless charge for promotion.

The captain said:“We are 47 points clear of Heriot-Watt University II with just four games left and a total of 72 points left to play for.

“We are getting close to securing promotion and that has been the target from day one. We have been very consistent over the campaign and it is just about maintaining these levels over the run-in.”

The thirds are at home against bottom club Galashiels with skipper Stewart Penman determined to o extend the team’s two-point lead over secondplacedWatsonians.

He said:“The target is an 18-point haul. If we want to win the title then this is exactly the type of match we must show a ruthless streak in.”

The ladies team are at Edinburgh Sports Club I with captain Sheena Logan hoping to take her team’s winning streak to four matches.

She said:“We are delighted to be up in third place but the table is really tight and ESC are fifth and looking to reel us in, so we need to dig deep in Edinburgh and make sure that we maintain our levels.”
