Milton back in business

Milton ................... 2 Westerlands ......... 0

Milton bounced back from their 7-1 West of Scotland Cup thumping at Shortlees to take all three Caledonian League points against Westerlands.

The home side started the match on the front foot and set about the visitors with intent. Shaddick went close after Henderson set him up and Reid was causing Westerlands problems down the right flank aided by Mitchell.

Westerlands had a narrow escape when Henderson fired a shot in from the edge of the box but it narrowly skimmed the outside of the post but the visitors showed they wern’t there to make up the numbers and went close just before the break with Clark making an outstanding save to keep the scoreline blank at the interval.

The vistors were hemmed in after half-time. Shaddick, Statter and Henderson all went close but luck was not on Milton’s side but finally the breakthrough came when Taylor fed the ball to Henderson and the big striker curled the ball into the net for a wonderful goal.

Milton began to test the visiting defence in search of a killer second goal and it came after Taylor slid the ball to Harris who fired in a tremendous low cross across the box and Henderson was on hand to prod it home.

Statter scored a great third goal only for the referee to rule it out for offside but Milton had done enough to win.

On Saturday it’s league business again at home to Broomhouse.
