‘Not a happy chappy’ Green to run the rule over Linnets trialists

TERRY Green will run the rule over several trialists at Burscough this week ahead of their clash with Ashton Athletic on Saturday.

Linnets’ game against Irlam was postponed last weekend and Green admitted he was frustrated after his side’s impressive run of recent form.

Burscough have lost just one of their last ten league games and are ninth in the HSL Premier Division despite a poor start to the campaign before Green’s arrival from Squires Gate.

When asked about the abandonment due to poor weather, the manager explained: “I was fuming. I wasn’t a happy-chappy. When you’re on such a good run you don’t want to be missing out on games.

“I think it was only us and a few other games called off so I was disappointed. I just wanted to play but we’ve just got to get on with it.”

Green added Connor Finlayson to Burscough’s ranks following his appointment as manager in November but he confirmed he is continuing to assess his options at Victoria Park.

With Linnets enjoying two full weeks between competitive matches, the boss revealed he has arranged short training games to take place this week as he runs the rule over several new faces.

“I’ve got a couple of friendlies arranged to keep us ticking over in midweek,” Green said. “We’re back at home to Ashton on Saturday so the game will definitely be on then anyway.

Confirming both first-team and backup players will also take part, he added: “I can bring in a few players from elsewhere that I’ve had a look at and give them a bit of a run out.

“It’ll be light training matches, 20-30 minutes over the evening so it’ll be good.

“You’re changing the routine a little bit so it’s not just Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. You’ve got the games for the lads as well.”
