ONE of Southport’s most historic hotels is undergoing a £1m renovation. Front Foot Hospitality, the management company behind the Royal Clifton Hotel, is completing a major refurbishment of all the bedrooms and public areas.

The work began on Monday, January 15 and is scheduled to be completed in mid-April. It is being carried out floor by floor starting at level three down to ground level, with the firm opting to use local companies from the North West for the works, including a Southport carpet company.

The hotel, built in 1885, was last updated 34 years ago by the previous owners.

The current owners bought the hotel in 2015 and over the past two years have invested significantly in back of house areas.

After the installation of high speed Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, a new property management system and new boiler, the owners say they have already improved brand scores through their partners, Best Western.

The Royal Clifton Hotel will upgrade to become Best Western Plus standard this spring, and the operators say that the revamped rooms will offer customers a new guest experience.

Michelle Jackson, the hotel’s gen- eral manager, said: “Southport locals have a strong loyal connection with the hotel, and it will be fantastic to share our new look with them all.

‘‘Our team is understandably very excited and we are looking forward to building on our local relationships and developing new ones within our national and global customer base.”
