Bus chiefs delay their route cuts’ timetable

MERSEYTRAVEL has announced it will delay making changes to its bus services.

The company is holding an event in Southport today (Thursday, November 10) to give people the chance to share their views on the service as it prepares to make major changes, likely to include cuts across the network.

More than 800 people have given feedback at similar events across the region in September and October and Merseytravel has now said that it will take more time to evaluate this feedback.

The company has not revealed what changes it is considering, but did say that it is looking at “how increasingly limited public resources can be focused where there is most need,”.

A spokesman for Merseytravel said: “Following feedback from the public at the initial consultation stage, and further discussions with councillors and bus operators, a decision has been taken to delay the implementation of the Sefton Bus Network Review. This will allow for further time to assess the consultation findings.

“The proposals will now be published at a later date for people to be able to give their views. As a result the original start date for the changes to be implemented has been moved from January, 2017, to April, 2017.

“The two planned dropin events are still taking place and members of the public will be able to speak to Merseytravel staff about how they use the bus network and what might encourage them to use the buses more.”
