DOG MESS DISGUSTING

-

I STOPPED off at Ainsdale beach on Thursday, February 5, for a walk along the dunes and was disgusted at the sheer amount of dog fouling. There was some roughly every 10 feet.

It was impossible to stroll along looking at the views as you had to watch where every step was placed.

When I returned to my car I noticed that virtually every vehicle that turned up was there to ‘exercise’ a dog.

Some people left their car with the dog for just however long it took for the dog to go into the dunes, empty its bowels and return to the car.

I didn’t see anyone return with a dog mess bag. Some people didn’t even bother leaving their cars, they just let the dog out and waited for it to return.

I was sat in my car when a car pulled up next to me and a dog was let out which proceeded to leave two piles of mess on the dune 15 feet in front of where I had parked! The owner then appeared and headed off into the dunes with the dog, leaving the piles of canine excrement to steam directly in my view in front of my car.

I am sorry to say it, but local people have to be the main culprits here.

The dunes and the beach are wonderful assets for the town, it is such a shame and a poor reflection on the area that there are so many selfish and ignorant people there who cannot see them as anything other than a dog toilet.

The scheme seeks to change the way streets operate by reducing the dominance of cars, primarily through lower speeds and encouraging drivers to behave more accommodatingly towards pedestrians.

It is said to be a ‘revolution in urban design’.

Such schemes are already working to good effect in Preston’s Fishergate, in Poynton, Cheshire, in Ashford, Kent and in Exhibition Road, South Kensington.

In the Preston scheme, the footpaths have been doubled in width, the road reduced to just one lane and road signs and traffic lights have been removed.

Some of these areas have been operating the scheme for several years and in all cases have reported a reduction in accidents.

The theory is that the sharing of space will cause an element of confusion amongst motorists, causing them to slow down and to
