Football club continues its centenary celebrations with quiz night and reunion

-

A CARMARTHENSHIRE football club is continuing to mark its centenary with a special quiz night and a reunion evening.

Crown Park Suburbs Football Club was established in 1921 by workmen in the Burry Port area and has cemented itself as part of the sporting community over the decades.

Over the years Crown Park Suburbs has also been known as Porth Tywyn Suburbs AFC and briefly went by the name Garden Suburbs Rangers in the 1990s.

Home games have also been played across the town too, as well as spells at the town’s Glan y Mor Comprehensive School and Memorial Park.

The club now plays home matches at Crown Park in the Seaside area of Llanelli.

As part of its 2021-22 season – its 100th as a club – a book is being planned and there has already been one commemorative match – with another planned later in the year after it was shelved at Christmas time due to Covid restrictions.

The next step of the celebrations is a sports quiz at the Shoreline

Club House, Burry Port, on Saturday at 6.30pm.

Club chair Andrew Hall said: “This will be an evening of fun to continue

our centenary celebrations.

“We also have a club reunion night planned for Saturday, May 14, at the Selwyn Samuel Centre in

Llanelli. Anyone associated with the club over the years are welcome to attend.

“We are in the process of finalising guest speakers for the night and so far we have Terry Boyle and Wyndham Evans booked.

“Both the sports quiz and the reunion evening will have proceeds raised going to Llanelli’s Ty Bryngwyn Hospice.

“Both nights will be a celebration of players, supporters and those associated with the club.”

Another key part of the club’s 100th year will be the publication of a book celebrating its history.

Last summer a call was made for the public and former players to get in touch and share memories and photos of the club to help compile the book, which is now in the final stages of being put together.
