Leisure centre waterpark set to close... just a week after reopening

-

SWANSEA’S LC is preparing to close its waterpark again just a week after it reopened it to the public.

Freedom Leisure, which runs the leisure pool, welcomed people back to use the facility on Saturday, October 17, having made a number of changes to allow customers to feel safe when attending amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, including reduced capacity, social distancing measures and the closure of slides.

But now, as a result of the Welsh Government’s fire-break lockdown, which will come into force at 6pm on Friday, it will be forced to close again.

The closure will be in place until Monday, November 9, when it will be able to resume its services once again.

In the meantime, it says there will be no requirement to drain the pool, or the others that Freedom Leisure manages at Penlan Leisure Centre, Morriston Leisure Centre and Penyrheol Leisure Centre.

A spokesman for Freedom Leisure said: “In line with Welsh Government regulations, the sites run by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Swansea Council will close from 6pm this Friday for the duration the circuit-breaker.

“We and a large part of our membership are disappointed to have to close our facilities again but understand why this is important at this time; we want to continue playing our part in curbing the spread of this deadly virus.”

The spokesman added: “To keep customers active through the circuitbreaker we’ll be running an enhanced virtual fitness class programme during this period as a free service to all our current members.

“We will also be making sure that our customers are not out of pocket due to this two-week break. We will reopen on Monday, November 9, with our pre-circuit-breaker opening times and programmes.

“As we have done throughout the pandemic, we’ll continue to keep our venues in topclass condition in readiness for the return of our members and other visitors.

“We look forward to welcoming them back.”
