Christmas arrives early for AC as they get first win
Lazarou Cardiff Football League
AC-F23 received an early Christmas present when they recorded their first win of the season, with a 3-1 victory over Golden Lion in the Everson Sports First Division.
It was a fantastic result for AC playing on a wet and boggy pitch down at St. Cyrus with them battling hard for their first win before the Christmas break.
AC got straight into the game pressing high up the field from the off.
AC struggled to create any opportunities with a strong defence from the Golden Lion for the first ten minutes.
AC’s attack started to pick up the pace and threat with the ball falling nicely to Lewis Pace who scored a screamer from outside the penalty box giving AC the lead.
Golden Lion immediately showed their presence with an equaliser from Ross Dennison minutes after AC-F23s goal.
With the game at 1-1, AC didn’t let their heads drop and battled hard to get a second just before the half time whistle with a strike from Connor Doyle.
The second half was uneventful from both teams during the first ten to fifteen minutes until a cross from Mason Bartley picked out Cai Parry who headed it up onto the crossbar, followed up by another header hitting the cross bar immediately after by Ellis Jenkins.
Golden Lion fought hard getting back into the flow of the game giving AC a few scares, but the defence wasn’t letting anything slip through.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Ellis Jenkins struck a third goal to give AC a cushion to see out the game comfortably, celebrate their first win of the season and move off the foot of the table in the process.
In the only other game played on the day due to the recent weather, Cardiff Athletic Sunday ran out surprise 3-0 winners against leaders Fred
FC in the Honestman4hire Second Division. Nathan Came, Kai Martin and James Robinson netted the decisive goals for Athletic to move them up level on points with second place Inter Caerau.
