Never say never, says Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth

-

GOOD news if you’re counting down to the return of Gavin and Stacey on Christmas Day.

Writer Ruth Jones has hinted in a magazine interview that the show could return, according to The Mirror.

Ruth, 53, says she and 41-year-old James Corden did not expect so much excitement from fans ahead of the Christmas special, which is coming up in just a few weeks, and says the ongoing success of the show could see it continue further.

“I think it would be churlish of me to say there won’t be any more,” the star – who plays Nessa Jenkins in the show – teased.

“The honest truth is there are no plans. But I don’t think I could ever say never,” she added.

Ruth expressed satisfaction at the way the new episode turned out – while critics who have had advanced screenings of the episode have already described the special as “a Christmas miracle” and an episode “you won’t be able to resist”.

“I get to be really rude and bossy. Being back in Barry again, wearing that leather skirt and being down the races or in Gwen’s house was just bliss,” Ruth told Red magazine.

“What’s lovely about the Christmas special is see a softer side to Nessa in her love for Neil, her son.

“She’s not a conventional mum, but she’s very loving,” she continued.

The comedy star added that she was bowled over by the reaction to the trailer for the episode – which surfaced last week.

“They were lovely phone calls. Everybody was over the moon... it was astonishing,” she gushed. ■■The Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special will air on BBC One on Christmas Day at 8.30pm.
