Arrest after man allegedly stabbed
ARMED police have arrested a man in Cardiff city centre following an alleged stabbing in neighbouring Newport.
Gwent Police responded to reports that a man had been stabbed in the Alway area of Newport at about 11.15am on Wednesday.
A 26-year-old man from Newport was conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital with injuries to his leg.
Yesterday morning, a man from Llanrumney was arrested on Westgate Street in Cardiff.
The 19-year-old is being held on suspicion of robbery and grievous bodily harm and remained in police custody yesterday.
A Gwent Police spokesman said officers responded to reports that a man had been stabbed on Newport’s
Penkin Hill. The 26-year-old man was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with injuries to his leg.
Following treatment he has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.
During the altercation, the alleged victim also had his watch and phone stolen from his pocket.
Detective Inspector Amanda Venn, of Gwent Police’s East Local Policing Area, said: “An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is underway and we currently have officers in the area carrying out further enquiries and providing reassurance to the local community.”
