Anger over sudden post office closure
UNCERTAINTY surrounds the future of a village post office that closed without warning.
Tylorstown councillor Robert Bevan said the community was feeling “very angry” over the East Road post office’s closure.
A “For Sale” sign is hanging on the building and a note in the window says it has closed.
The Post Office explained that the postmaster had resigned and urged anyone interested in taking it over or incorporating it into their business to come forward.
Cllr Bevan said the issue has been dragging on for months and that the post office has been closed intermittently since the beginning of the year.
He said there has been no consultation with either himself or the general public and that he didn’t receive information to say that it was closing.
“The community is very angry. We have been kept in the dark,” he said.
The Post Office has confirmed that the branch was temporarily closed on August 3 following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the post office from use.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Tylorstown Post Office following the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of premises for post office use.
“We would encourage any retailer or small business owner interested in running the post office and incorporating it into their business to contact us on 0845 266 8790 and talk to an advisor or email NTquestions@postoffice.co.uk.”
