PLAYER RATINGS

- By CALUM CROWE

UKRAINE (3-4-3) TEAM AVERAGE 6.5

ANDRIY LUNIN 6.5

Made a good save to deny Adams inside the opening couple of minutes but Scots didn’t test him as much as they’d have liked.

ILLYA ZABARNYI 7

Played some nice longrange passes out of defence. Spooned a shot over the bar when he had a chance to make it 1-0.

TARAS STEPANENKO 6.5

Huge chance with a header from a corner but he never made the right sort of contact. Volleyed wide of the target on 79 minutes.

MYKOLA MATVIYENKO 6.5

Bit of a mixed bag. Was wasteful in possession at times but also showed good strength and aggression in defence.

OLEKSANDR TYMCHYK 6.5

Showed good energy to get up and down the park and was also involved in the creation of some good chances for Ukrainians.

DANYLO IGNATENKO 6

Booked for a wild lunge on Hickey. Probably fortunate not to see red. But also made a couple of good tackles at other points.

RUSLAN MALINOVSKYI 6.5

Tried to break from midfield and support the attack. Shot over the bar from Mykolenko’s cross just before half-time.

VITALIY MYKOLENKO 6.5

Everton wing-back had a good physical tussle with Hickey for most of the game but it was the Scot who came out on top.

ANDRIY YARMOLENKO 6

Had a brilliant early chance to make it 1-0 but he blazed his shot over the bar. Showed a nice range of passing when on the ball.

ARTEM DOVBYK 6.5

Great chance when he was clean through on goal but Gordon saved well. Dropped deep and linked the play fairly well.

MYKHAYLO MUDRYK 7

Rapid pace caused problems. Cut inside and unleashed a venomous shot which was well saved by Gordon. A huge talent.

SUBSTITUTES Tsygankov (Mudryk 75), Yaremchuk (Dovbyk 75), Pikhalyonok (Malinovskyi 87), Zubkov (Yarmolenko 87).

OLEKSANDR PETRAKOV 7

Watched his team squander several good chances on a night when their finishing was poor.

SCOTLAND (4-2-3-1) TEAM AVERAGE 7.1

CRAIG GORDON 8

Stood tall and made a great save from Dovbyk midway through first half. Flying save to keep out Mudryk after half-time. Brilliant.

AARON HICKEY 8

Strong and composed in defence and got forward to good effect. Has really come of age in a Scotland jersey over the past week.

RYAN PORTEOUS 7.5

A terrific debut. Barely put a foot wrong as he brushed off recent criticism with Hibs. Rock solid and fully deserved clean sheet.

JACK HENDRY 7.5

Led the defence well. Has had a really good week overall, playing every minute of all three games and scoring against Ireland.

GREG TAYLOR 6.5

Ukraine targeted the Scotland left-back area but Taylor wasn’t helped by a lack of cover from his teammates. Stuck to his task.

RYAN JACK 7

Good chance to make it 1-0 after half an hour but his left-foot shot flew over the bar. Always neat and tidy on the ball. Solid night’s work.

CALLUM McGREGOR 7

Always available to take the ball in tight areas and kept things ticking over in midfield. Also made a couple of vital tackles.

RYAN FRASER 6.5

Looked lively and tried to get Scotland on the front foot with his pressing before running out of steam. Replaced by Christie.

JOHN McGINN 6.5

Set-piece delivery was poor and he couldn’t quite reproduce his heroics from the previous two games. Will have better nights.

KENNY McLEAN 6.5

Was one of the players brought in amid an injury and illness crisis and he certainly didn’t let his nation down. Solid as ever.

CHE ADAMS 7

Hard to fault his effort and work rate but he didn’t have the same impact against Ukraine as he did at Hampden last week.

SUBSTITUTES Christie (Fraser 72), Armstrong (Jack 72), Kingsley (Taylor 72), Dykes (Adams 79), Ralston (Hickey 90).

STEVE CLARKE 7.5

All sorts of injury and illness issues but his players rose to the challenge and got the job done.

REF TASOS SIDIROPOULOS (GRE) 7 Fairly lenient. Could have punished some hefty tackles from Ukrainians.
