Blind Date

- Interviews: SAMANTHA BRICK

I need to meet an alpha male — I’m a 6ft 2in alpha female SARAH, 35 VITAL STATISTICS

SINGLE for a year, no children.

CURRENT ROLE PROCUREMENT specialist.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

SOMEONE tall (I’m 6ft 2in). Ideally an alpha male as I’m an alpha female.

DATING PAST?

MY laST relationship was in 2020, but the pandemic put an end to it. I use dating apps, but they’re not great for my selfesteem. You can chat to someone for a couple of months and it won’t turn into anything.

I’m at the stage in my life when I’m looking for someone who is funny, loyal and would like to have children.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

NoT for a first date. My logic is that I can easily talk to a stranger for a couple of hours. I’m a ‘yes’ person, so going on a blind date is a no-brainer.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

I arrIved at the restaurant first and romaine was shown to our table five minutes later. I thought he was cute. and tall!

he wore a white T-shirt and jeans. I already knew he was a model and would be dressed cool and casual; so I wore a black vest top, with black leather shorts and a pair of heels.

EASY TO TALK TO?

We’d both already looked at the menu online and knew what we were going to eat; even so, the waitress had to come back a few times to take our order because we were so busy chatting. romaine has food intolerances so we kept joking about that. I liked that we have a similar sense of humour.

romaine is an interesting guy and we discovered we had so much in common. We had both previously lived in london and it turns out he’s an amazing netball player, and so am I! Then I joked that he can join my netball team. We didn’t stop laughing in the four hours we spent together.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

Well, we kept winding the waitress up and suggested that romaine might keel over because of his dairy intolerance. She looked so panicked, I felt a bit bad.

DID SPARKS FLY?

We defINITelY fancied each other. We flirted and there was lots of eye contact; you just know when someone fancies you.

SEE HIM AGAIN?

YeS, we’ve been chatting since. We both agreed we are glad to have met one another. We exchanged numbers at the end of the date.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

he SaId he has a ‘fondness’ for me; I’ll take that as a positive.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HIM?

YeS, romaine is down to earth and easy to talk to.

She didn’t like me ordering a salad... but we still clicked ROMAINE, 31 VITAL STATISTICS

CURRENT ROLE MODEL.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

A WOMAN who is courageous enough to be herself. I’m not interested in women who have plastic surgery.

DATING PAST?

I’ve been in three serious relationships as an adult. They each lasted a few years. I’m sure my mum would like me to settle down. I haven’t dated during the pandemic and while I did download a couple of the apps this year, it was mainly out of curiosity and I’ve since deleted them.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

I’ve never been on a blind date before, but I wasn’t nervous. I’m not the type

of person to worry in advance.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

Sarah will say she arrived first, but in truth I did. I arrived early and the restaurant was still closed, so I went for a wander while I waited for it to open. When I got to our table I realised I’d already seen Sarah — tall, blonde, with a pretty face — seated in the restaurant. I hadn’t realised she was my blind date. When I first spotted her I assumed she was a placid, shy type, but when we got talking, I realised I was completely wrong. She was immediately charming.

EASY TO TALK TO?

YeS. Sarah is well-travelled, spontaneous and smart. She lived in the United States for a couple of years. It has given her a different cultural insight to the world. To me, that’s quite cool.

She’s mature — that’s a compliment — and I enjoyed the fact she spoke frankly. I like that in a woman.

as it was a Saturday lunchtime, we started off with a tequila for Sarah and a vodka for me, followed by a glass of rosé.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

I SUffer from IBS and have to be careful about what I eat. Sarah wasn’t impressed by my choice of salmon salad, but it was delicious.

DID SPARKS FLY?

There was chemistry. I connected with Sarah. I felt like we could have an

open and honest conversation.

SEE THEM AGAIN?

YeS, I’d like to. We exchanged numbers, but I can’t remember who asked who. after our fourhour date, it felt like a natural thing to do.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

Sarah will say I’m a guy who isn’t ready to be in a relationship. She is 100 per cent correct! am I going to see her again? I’ll let fate decide.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HER?

YeS, my friends would enjoy Sarah’s company and sense of humour.
