Wright calls on Killie to be clinical and secure safety

- By GEORGE GRANT

KILMARNOCK boss Tommy Wright has urged his struggling side to prove they have the cutting edge required to haul themselves clear of a grim relegation battle. Killie ended a run of eight defeats with a 1-1 home draw against Dundee United last weekend but are ahead of bottom side Hamilton on goal difference only, with today’s opponents Ross County having played a game more than both clubs. Wright, still looking for his first win as Rugby Park boss at the fifth attempt and with just one goal scored during his tenure to date, believes his players have the ammunition to fire their way to safety despite their recent barren run. He said: ‘At the top end of the pitch we have to make sure we are more clinical and create more chances because our approach play has been really good. ‘We have worked the ball into really good areas but we have been let down by the final ball at times, maybe not the right movements in the box, so there is still work to be done. ‘We have worked hard again this week to try to improve that attacking side of the game and hopefully that will reap benefits. I have seen improvement in every game and there is still room for more.’ County defender Jason Naismith insists his side have to recognise the importance of squeezing every available point out of the remaining matches. ‘It is time to realise the importance of these games and how much we need to dig in and graft,’ said Naismith. ‘You have no divine right to win games. It doesn’t matter if you beat Celtic one week, it doesn’t give you the right to just turn up in Paisley and get three points against St Mirren. ‘The quicker we realise that the better.’
