FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND
CELTIC HIT FLAT SPOT AT WRONG TIME LIVINGSTON were immense in yesterday’s 2-0 win over tenman Celtic but Neil Lennon’s side produced a worryingly flat display. A draw against Hibs last week and defeat at the Tony Macaroni Arena has thrown away the early initiative in the title race. The significance of drawing first blood in the first Old Firm game of the season has already disappeared.
COSGROVE IS THE KING OF PITTODRIE
FOURTEEN goals in 15 games in all competitions is a terrific return for Sam Cosgrove. He was the hero yet again for Aberdeen as his late effort rescued a 1-1 draw against Hibs. The Dons went down to nine men at Pittodrie and now have suspensions to deal with, alongside a lengthy injury list, but with Cosgrove firing on all cylinders, they could still end up being best of the rest.
KENNEDY CAN SPARK SAINTS REVIVAL
STILL without a victory and bottom of the league, there may not be many reasons to believe a change in fortune is imminent at St Johnstone. But Matty Kennedy (right) scored in the 2-2 draw at Dingwall and can be the man to drive Saints on.
TROUBLE IS BREWING AT TYNECASTLE
FOUR home Premiership matches without a win for Hearts to start the campaign seemed unthinkable given how Tynecastle is usually a formidable fortress under the guidance of Craig Levein. The Gorgie outfit have a lack of options in both attack and defence due to injury, but they gifted Kilmarnock the initiative on Saturday and the visitors capitalised to win 1-0 in Edinburgh.
QUEENS KEEP ON GRINDING AWAY
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH boast the best defensive record but the worst scoring record in the Championship. A 1-0 win at Partick Thistle was a crucial victory for Allan Johnston’s men. Darren Brownlie’s header was Queens’ fourth goal in eight league games and lifted them up to sixth. They’ve conceded just six times in the same period.
