THE war is going badly in the penultimat­e episode, and the spectre of Culloden looms large in the minds of Jamie and Claire (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, pictured). Is it too late to change history? Whatever the answer, there are surprises in an episode that largely unfolds in tense rooms, and places Claire in particular­ly awkward circumstan­ces.

THIS archive-rich documentar­y tells the intriguing story of Chanel No. 5, the perfume created by chemist Ernest Beaux and released upon the world by Coco Chanel. The war was between Chanel and her investors, the Wertheimer brothers, who vied for years for control of the lucrative scent.

GHOST HUNT Paranormal Lockdown UK, 9pm, Quest Red

NICK GROFF and Katrina Weidman begin their spook-hunt in Somerset’s Shepton Mallet prison, which has a long, grisly history. Just before the duo are shut in, their guide shows them a scar he claims came from a ghostly encounter . . . (Freeview 38, Sky 149, Virgin 215)

GAME FOR A LAUGH A League Of Their Own, 9pm, Sky One

JAMES CORDEN returns from America to host this new, 13th series of the sports quiz, which is now without panellist Jack Whitehall. Replacing him is busy comedian Romesh Ranganatha­n, who is a much drier presence, so it will be interestin­g to see how that change affects the show’s banter.

CRIME DRAMA Instinct, 9pm, Sky Witness

ALAN CUMMING’S enjoyably hammy ex-CIA man is back working with the police again in episode two. He’s called to the scene of the even hammier murder of a venture capitalist, and the ensuing case is solidly interestin­g — but the main business here is solidifyin­g the chemistry between Dylan (Cumming) and his cop partner, Detective Lizzie Needham (Bojana Novakovic).

SCI-FI MOVIE The Martian, 9pm, Film4

MATT DAMON is stranded alone on the Red Planet, using all his guile to survive until he can be rescued — if, indeed, he can be rescued. A gripping story, which goes to pains to feel realistic.

REVEALING CHAT John Bishop: In Conversati­on With Gabby Logan, 10pm, W

IN A new episode of the in-depth interview show, presenter Gabby Logan is John Bishop’s sole guest (both pictured below). Logan talks with emotion about her footballer father, Terry Yorath, who played for and later managed Wales, and about the death of her brother when he was just 15.

FILM ROMCOM The Boy Downstairs, 10.10pm, Sky Premiere

QUIRKY and quite sweet, this comedy drama stars Zosia Mamet as Diana, an aspiring writer who accidental­ly moves into the neighbouri­ng flat of an ex-boyfriend (Matthew Shear).
