SNP - CLARE HAUGHEY
The SNP will use our experience to lead a full-scale postpandemic remobilisation of the NHS.
We cannot do this without the extraordinary commitment of all those who work in it.
To recognise their dedication, the SNP is offering the biggest single NHS pay increase in the history of devolution.
Investment in the NHS is already at record levels, but the pandemic has placed exceptional pressures on our health service – that requires an exceptional response. If the SNP is re-elected, we will increase frontline NHS spending by at least 20 per cent.
The SNP will establish a fast-track cancer diagnostic centre in every health board; 10 elective treatment centres – with at least 1500 more staff – which will specialise in procedures like hip and knee replacements, cataract surgery and diagnostic services like MRI scans; invest £10 billion to replace and refurbish health facilities; create a National Care Service; and abolish all NHS dentistry charges.
I’ve been a mental health nurse for over 30 years, and since becoming the Minister for Mental Health, funding in mental health has almost tripled. If re-elected, direct investment in mental health will increase by at least 25 per cent.
We will continue to invest in and reform mental health services, with a focus on child and adolescent services.
Additionally, we will ensure every GP practice has access to a dedicated mental wellbeing link worker, creating a network of 1000 additional dedicated staff.
Experienced leadership is what is needed to take NHS and social care reforms forward, and only Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP can provide this. Our experience will be vital as we continue against Covid-19.
By making it‘Both Votes SNP’, you will be voting to return me – an experienced mental health advocate – as your constituency MSP, and Nicola Sturgeon as First Minister to see us through our recovery.
